What to do During an Orthodontic Emergency

If you’re dealing with an orthodontic problem during COVID-19 dental office closures, take a deep breath. Even though we’re practicing “social distancing” during the coronavirus pandemic, our Marietta orthodontist is still here to provide urgent care services and emergency appointments.

That being said, most orthodontic emergencies are issues that you can address at home without having to rush off to see the orthodontist. Depending on what the problem is, we can talk you through what to do or schedule you for an appointment once social distancing restrictions are lifted. There aren’t too many big emergencies with braces, but there are some situations to watch for. These are the top three orthodontic emergencies we often see in our Marietta practice.

Broken Wires

No matter how hard you try to care for your braces, a wire has the potential to break or come loose. The result is a piece of wire that rubs your cheek or gums. Though it may cause a slight scratch in the tissue, the problem is easily remedied with a small piece of wax rolled and molded over the wire. (more…)
