Once you get braces from our Marietta, Georgia orthodontist, caring for your teeth is more important than ever. Here are some tips on how you should be brushing your smile with braces.
Best Type of Toothbrush to Use with Braces
If using a manual toothbrush, make sure that it’s a soft bristled brush. Anything harder can be damaging to your braces and your gum tissue. The best type of toothbrush to use with braces is an electric one because they are so much more effective.
How to Brush
When brushing your teeth with braces, pay close attention to what you’re doing. Angle the toothbrush as a 45-degree angle toward the gums so that the tips of the bristles clean right against the gumline. Then flip the brush, and at the same angle, clean your teeth so that the bristles are removing plaque from that side of the brackets and wire. Finally, flip the brush for a last time, and clean the brackets and wires from the opposite side of each tooth.
Additional Brushing Tips
Brushing your teeth should be done after every meal and snack, when you wake up, and before you go to bed. To help make it less of a hassle for you, consider carrying around a small oral hygiene kit which consists of all of the products you’ll need throughout the day.
