Certain foods can cause your wires and brackets to break off, halting, or altering your treatment. Others may highly increase your chances of developing tooth decay.

Foods to Avoid With Braces

During your time in braces you should avoid the following:

Bread: Soft bread is especially hard to clean out of wires and brackets. Food particles that are left behind cause cavities so it’s best to just stay away from these types of food.

Sticky Foods: You should avoid sticky foods and candies like taffy, caramel, and gum.  In addition to being hard to clean after, sticky foods can pop your braces off. (more…)

When Should Your Child Get Braces?

If you suspect your child needs braces, you may be wondering when the best time is to get them in to see an orthodontist. It may help to know there are some key points in your child’s life when it’s ideal to come in for an orthodontic consultation.

The First Ortho Consult

By the age of seven, when your child’s permanent teeth begin to come in, you should go ahead and bring them to seen an orthodontist. At this point we’ll be able to determine if there any dental or facial developmental problems.

Clear Dental AlignerSince your Invisalign trays need to come out to brush your teeth and eat, they can quickly be misplaced or accidentally thrown in the trash. What are you supposed to do though, if you lose your Invisalign trays?

Try Other Trays

Depending on how long you were wearing the lost set of aligners, you may be far enough along to proceed to the next set of trays.  Try them in but don’t force them.  If they fit, then wear them, but if they don’t, then try in the previous set (which you should always keep for such an occasion).

The last thing you want to do it completely interrupt your orthodontic treatment so you should always be wearing aligners.
